Oh, how ironic... it's in a HTML document, you say? I don't care whether you say it or not, this is to demonstrate the absolute stupidity of posting in HTML...
Some people seem to enjoy posting in HTML. These people are called by the name of Commonus Moronus or your average idiot. In many places, specifically AGLAMI, this is considered to be quite a bad thing to do as it takes a longer time to download and is not supported in all newsreaders.
I present my case similarly to a court case, except with no judge, jury, or lawyers... actually nothing at all except these exhibit thingys:
Exhibit A:
Here is an ordinary message, commonly found posted in a newsgroup...
Hello, I own a copy of Escape from Monkey Island but I accidentally threw it in the trash compactor. Please email me all the files from the Discs. My email address is some@idiot.com
Exhibit B:
Here is a similar message, posted by a crazed HTML posting moron...
Exhibit C:
This is what Exhibit B looks like to somebody who doesn't have a HTML capable newsreader...
<FONT FACE="Comic Sans MS" COLOR="red"><MARQUEE WIDTH="50">Hello</MARQUEE>, I own a copy of <FONT COLOR="green"><B>Escape from Monkey Island</B></FONT> but I <I>accidentally</I> <U>threw</U> it in the trash compactor. Please email me all the files from the Discs.<A HREF="mailto:some@idiot.com">EMAIL ME NOW</A></FONT>
As you can see, Exhibit B might look nice but Exhibit C is not a pretty sight at all. Since you can't guarantee that everybody who reads your message has a HTML capable newsreader (unless you post to a HTML specific group), you should always post in Plain Text (Exhibit A).
To make Outlook Express post in Plain Text...
Go to... Tools > Options > Send and set News Sending Format to Plain Text.
Other stupid newsreaders which insist on posting in HTML unless you beat them with a stick will have similar options.
DO IT... Now!
