Monkey Island 1 and 2 aren't available in my country / I can't be bothered buying MI1+2. Where can I download them? A. We're not going to tell you - you should buy the games legally. The excuses that "the games aren't available any more" or "they're not available here" simply aren't true - they are still available, from overseas if necessary - you just have to look. Here are some resources for you to try: * If you live in the US, they can still be bought from the LucasArts Company Store (at http://www.lucasarts.com/companystore/). * If you live in some other countries, they can be bought in a single package containing all three Monkey Island games. This pack is called "The Monkey Island Bounty Pack", and costs about as much as a new release. * The games can be obtained via mail-order - Software First (http://www.softwarefirst.com) sends orders overseas from the UK. * Ebay (http://www.ebay.com) allows users to trade their old games. You could try finding the game there. * Old games can be traded on the newsgroup comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.marketplace with some risk. Be sure to find out some more information about the user. Q. I've "lost" my code wheel. Can somebody send me an image of the wheel / direct me to a crack? A. Nope. If you've genuinely lost your code wheel, you should contact LucasArts' repesentatives in your country for a replacement. Q. One of my game disks is corrupted. Can you e-mail the files to me? A. Nope. That'll teach you not to make backups. Again, contact LucasArts' representatives. Part Two - The Website Journey =====[Recommended Sites]====== Q. I'm looking for information and news on Monkey Island and other LucasArts games. Can you recommend some good websites for me? A. There are hundreds of Monkey Island and adventure-related sites on the Internet. However, the following sites are the biggest and most regularly updated: * The Monkey Island SCUMM Bar (http://scummbar.mixnmojo.com) * LucasFans (http://lucasfans.adventuregamer.com) * Mix 'N' Mojo (http://www.mixnmojo.com) Part Three - Buried Under Monkey Island Puzzles ============[Help if you are stuck]============ Q. I'm a pathetic wimp. I want to download the full walkthrough solution to one of the Monkey Island games, and complete it in a day. Where can I get such walkthroughs? A. Walkthroughs for all three Monkey Island games are available at Walkthrough Central (http://www.huzatron.freeserve.co.uk/tips/). The files are available in both HTML and plain text formats. Q. I'm stuck on a particular puzzle, but I don't want to spoil the entire game by downloading a walkthrough! How can I get help with just this puzzle? A. You can post on this newsgroup, of course (read the Guidelines, below, if you're unsure). You can also use a UHS Hint file, which will give you progressively more obvious hints for the puzzle you're stuck on. Visit http://www.uhs-hints.com for more information. Q. I am unable to win the sword fight with the Swordmaster/Rottingham. How do I win? A. Firstly, you must collect as many witty replies as possible from the other pirates. To do this, simply give them an insult - if they reply with the correct answer, it will be added to you list. If you're just plain unsure of which insult to use, there is a full listing of the insults matched with their replies at: * http://scummbar.mixnmojo.com/hints/ (Swordmaster - MI 1) * http://scummbar.mixnmojo.com/hints/hintscmi.html (Rottingham - MI 3) Q. where i get mud A. I presume you mean "Where can I get mud?". It's generally on the ground. Remember that half-baked answers will get half-baked replies. Part Four - Guidelines Kick Butt ==[Guides and tips to Posting]== Please, don't worry about posting here - feel free to post any questions, opinions, snippets of news, or anything else you like. Nobody is going to laugh if you ask a silly question, or get angry about your point of view (so long as it's not -too- extreme). There are, though, some golden rules to posting: * Be concise. Nobody wants to answer a question asking, "How do I win sword fight?", particularly in this newsgroup. Remember that there are three Monkey Island games, two of which involve sword-fighting. * "Lurk" (read the messages without contributing) in a newsgroup for a day or so before posting, to give you an idea of the general mood of the group. * Don't give out your proper e-mail address on the newsgroup, or enter it as your e-mail address in your newsreader - you'll be inundated with adverts for dodgy products and other things before you know it. If you wish to leave an e-mail address, protect it by changing the address slightly (use fred@myisp.nospam.co.uk, for example). * Avoid posting in HTML. It may add such features such as colours and font changes to your article, but do you really need them to express your point? If you do, then quite frankly, the point isn't worth reading. Not all users have a newsreader which can read HTML, and not everybody appreciates effectively downloading a message twice. * When replying to a message, DON'T start a new thread. There's nothing more irritating than seeing a new thread which seems to be some kind of reply. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This FAQ is written as a service to the newsgroup, and is posted to the group every month. If you have any comments or suggestions, please either e-mail them to me or reply to this message on the group. Thanks.
